Standards such as **ASHRAE ASHRAE Standard 62.1 became the reference point for safer buildings. The result? Safer indoor environments—but dramatically higher energy bills. Many buildings are now paying what could be called a “ventilation tax.” Heating, cooling, humidifying, and dehumidifying large volumes of outside air requires significant energy, especially in climates with extreme seasonal temperatures.
